This is how Riot describes Lucian
“wields relic weapons imbued with ancient power and stands a stalwart guardian against the undead. His cold conviction never wavers, even in the face of the maddening horrors he destroys beneath his hail of purifying fire. Lucian walks alone on a grim mission: to purge the spirits of those ensnared in undeath, his eternal beloved among them.”
Pretty grim one would say, right? It turns out that this champion had a period in his life where he had an affinity for sports, soccer to be precise. When the skin Striker Lucian was launched a lot of people were arguing that it looks a lot like Edgar Davids and so did the legendary player.
According to a report from a Dutch website Het Parool the player sued Riot because of this striking similarity. Riot accepted defeat and admitted that the players sometimes confused the two.
The judge was hesitant but after he was presented with a tweet from 2014 by former Riot QA analyst Baconhawk. “For all you wondering, Striker Lucian was inspired by soccer pro Edgar Davids~ “
The judge in the case ordered Riot to reveal to auditors how much money the Striker Lucian skin has earned, and will determine Davids’ compensation based on that. A Riot rep declined to comment on the case.
